Covid 19 Antibody testing

This test is a lateral flow (rapid) test that tests for two classes of antibody namely – IgM and IgG. The IgM antibody is the first class of antibody to appear following an infection. The IgM antibodies start to appear about two weeks after symptoms. A week or so later you should start to detect SARS Cov 2 specific IgG antibodies. The antibody test informs you if you have been exposed to the virus. The presence of the IgM antibodies implies a recent infection and the presence of only IgG antibodies that infection took place about a month prior to being positive. IgG antibodies can be detected a few months after the initial infection.
