This test is recommended if you are concerned about a recent exposure.
The HIV combo test is both an antigen and antibody test. It therefore detects HIV specific proteins (antigens) and HIV antibodies. The advantage of testing for antigens is that it improves the sensitivity of the test by closing the window period which is the time before HIV specific antibodies start to be detected. This is often a few days after you have had an HIV infection. This is a rapid test so you will have the result within 20 – 30 minutes.
